Leprosy Awareness Talk, Campaign, and Skin Health Camp

Manipal, 10th February 2025: In observance of Leprosy Month, the Department of Agada Tantra, in association with the Department of Health and Family Welfare, Udupi, organized an awareness talk, campaign, and health camp at the Muniyal Institute of Ayurveda Medical Sciences, Manipal.
Dr. Latha Nayak, District Leprosy Officer (DLEO) of Udupi, delivered an insightful one-hour talk on leprosy, focusing on the importance of early detection, screening, and diagnosis. The session aimed at removing the social stigma surrounding the disease while promoting its eradication. Dr. Latha Nayak’s team, including Bharath (Health Inspecting Officer), Raju (Paramedical Worker), Sagar (MIS Staff), Dr. Shamini Kumar (Medical Officer, UPHC Manipal), and Parashuram (Health Inspecting Officer, UPHC Manipal), guided students on conducting surveys, data collection, and patient screening.
The event was inaugurated by Dr. Latha Nayak, along with Principal Dr.Satyanarayan Bhat, UG Dean Dr. Shubha, Medical Officer, UPHC Manipal Dr. Shamini Kumar, Dr. Ramesh (Intern Incharge), and Dr. Varuni S Bayari (Assistant Professor, Agada Tantra).
Post-talk, 50 volunteer students were trained on conducting a survey in the Manchi and Hudko Colony areas, which will continue for 3-4 days, covering around 1540 households. Additionally, a skin health camp will be held at the Muniyal Institute of Ayurveda Medical Sciences from 10th to 15th February 2025, from 9 AM to 4 PM.
This initiative aims to raise awareness about skin diseases, encourage early diagnosis, and offer medical support to the community.
