Mental Health Awareness Programme Held at Volakadu Government High School

As part of the National Ayurveda Day – Community Outreach Programme, Muniyal Institute of Ayurveda Medical Sciences, Manipal, organised a Mental Health Awareness Programme for adolescents at Volakadu Government High School, Udupi, on September 10.

The programme was conducted in association with the Lions Club. Dr. Rashmi Kalkura, Assistant Professor, Department of Kayachikitsa, MIAMS, delivered an awareness talk on mental health during adolescence.

The session focused on emotional and psychological well-being among adolescents. Students were sensitised to common challenges such as academic stress, peer pressure, emotional changes, self-esteem concerns and social difficulties. The importance of healthy coping strategies, open communication, supportive relationships, adequate sleep and a healthy lifestyle was also highlighted.

Dr. Rashmi Kalkura encouraged students to seek timely help when facing emotional or psychological difficulties and emphasised approaching trusted parents, teachers or healthcare professionals when required. The need to reduce the stigma associated with mental health concerns was also highlighted.

Around 200 students were benefited in the programme. UG Final Year students Niteesh Acharya, Gautham and Skandashree also participated and gained practical exposure to community interaction, health education and awareness activities.
